Welcome!

Outlander: Je Suis Prest is a roleplay taking place during the mid-1700’s in the Highlands of Scotland.

Loosely based upon the world created by Diana Gabaldon it is an AU environment where all of the character's futures have not yet been decided.

Canon and original characters are welcome. It is not necessary to be familiar with the Outlander series in order to join. Just an interest in Scotland and the time period is necessary.

When does the plot take place/where in the series is the plot beginning?
    • Our plot is taking place prior to the beginning of Outlander in 1743 (with Claire having just stumbled through Craigh na Dun). Everything will start completely fresh and no canon character’s future has been determined.
Will Claire/Jamie/the Claire and Jamie romance be the central focus of the board?
    • No. The time period (early to mid-1700’s/Jacobite era) and the few clans we have chosen to highlight, as well as some English involvement, will be the main focus. Unlike the books, this forum will not revolve solely around Jamie and/or Claire.
*SQUEEE* OMG I LOVED Jamie in Outlander! Can I play Claire?
    • If you are interested in an Outlander RP simply because you fell in love with Jamie while reading the books and wish to fulfill some sort of fangurl fantasy, then this is not the place for you. With that being said, yes, you may apply for Claire. However, since we are not following the events in the books, there is a very good chance that Jamie and Claire will not even fall in love.

A romance between two characters in a fictional novel is a fairly straightforward thing. One author writes for both parts, building the chemistry between the characters. In an RP, the personality of the handler/scribe does show through in their character and will affect how they interact with others.

That is why, on this forum, we allow each person to control their character’s destiny, including the canon characters. There is nothing worse for the handler of a canon character than being expected (or forced) to have a romantic relationship with the canon character love interest from the fandom book/movie.
If you are starting at the beginning of Outlander then why are Ian and Jenny not already married?
    • We have decided that it would be better left up to the handlers of Ian and Jenny to determine whether or not the characters will indeed marry. They are currently engaged. So, it will be up to the handlers to determine whether that marriage takes place or not.
Why is Fergus included in the canon list when that character was not introduced until Dragonfly in Amber?
    • There were a few characters (John Grey included) from the subsequent books that we felt might be popular for people to play and could be included in the canon list with only some slight tweaking. Fergus’s age and the way he met Jamie has been changed just slightly in order to fit with our forum plot. See Jamie Fraser's application history section for more details on our AU version of the Jamie/Fergus meeting.
Will Craigh na Dun be used within the forum?
    • The standing stones will be a physical location in the Highlands but as far as them being used to time travel like Claire did – no. Time travel within an RP forum would be too complicated a thing to incorporate. Once the forum is established we may discuss small ways to use the stones during one of the seasonal festivals. Or, if the forum really takes off, with many active members, there may be a way to expand the site to include Craigh na Dun as an active portal to the future.
Can I apply for a canon character from one of the novels that follows after Outlander?
    • These type requests will be considered on a case by case basis. Send your request to The Laird.
    What are the Reivers?
    • The Border Reivers (pronounced rēvǝrz) were raiders along the England/Scotland border from the 13th century to almost the end of the 16th century. “The reivers were both English and Scottish and they raided both sides of the border impartially, so long as the people they hit had no powerful protectors and no connection to their own kin.”* The reivers were romanticized years later in fiction (Sir Walter Scott 1771-1832).

In order to add some extra tension in our plot and also to expand the possibilities for role-play, we have added a variation of the historical Border Reivers to our forum. Our reivers are descendants of those who raided along the border. The group has shifted their raiding activities to the Lowlands of Scotland and have begun using the Highlands as their hideout from the English, who have responded to complaints by the Lowland citizens regarding the troublemakers.

Is it possible for me to join as a member of clan MacDonald, Grant, Campbell, Gordon, etc, etc, etc?
    • Currently, we are only concentrating on the Highland clans of Fraser, Munro and MacKenzie as well as the Reivers from the Lowlands. Otherwise characters would be spread out over too many clans. We may consider adding more in the future if the membership base increases enough to support it.
I’m not familiar with the Outlander books at all. Can I still join the forum?
    • Absolutely. A knowledge of the series is not required. Just an interest in Scotland and the time period is necessary.
I love the Outlander series but I’m not sure if I’m ready to take on a character and begin RPing. Can I just post in the Outlander discussion area?
    • Sure! You will need to register on the forum and then just complete and post a very short sign-up form before you can begin posting. See this forum for more details.
