Colum MacKenzie, chieftain of Clan MacKenzie, will play host to the current gathering taking place at Castle Leoch and the surrounding lands. Clans from the neighboring districts have come to Cranesmuir and Leoch for the gathering –chieftains and clan leaders as well as many family members. The prominent clans from the area, who are in attendance, are the MacKenzies, Frasers and Munros as well as a number of others.

It is traditional that a huge banquet be held to signal the official start of the gathering. Preparations had begun days before and continued even as guests began to arrive. Some guests will be staying within the castle itself while others will make camp within the expansive grounds of the Leoch estate.
